As you progress down the page, the photographs commence at the west end of Gertrude street near where the 86 tram turns right from Nicholson Street and finishing just shy of the east end of the street, where the 86 tram turns left into Smith Street.

A 12 page pdf abridged version of this web page, together with the map above, is available here to download or print: Melbourne Street Art 86 - Fitzroy mini guide and street art locations map.
I have featured the majority of the works on this part of the route, but not all and the selections are based on what appeals to me. It is well worth making your own explorations to see what you can discover and might like. Street artworks do get replaced or removed sometimes, so what you see here as of January 2013 may be different in some instances at a later date.
I will add artists names if they are known as I discover them or if others let me know.
1. Alley just before Brown Couch Bar
86 Tram Stop 12 (Melbourne Museum). Cross the road following the right turn of the tram tracks and walk down Gertrude Street.

Other locations connection point - Fitzroy: Fitzroy Street, Brunswick Street and Rose Street
Though not part of the main tour of street art on the 86 tram line, you can if you wish continue up Fitzroy Street and see a large number of street art locations on the street itself, on streets that cross Fitzroy Street and lead to Brunswick Street or to the west, and also on Rose Street.
The street art in these locations is featured on the Other locations - Fitzroy page.

10. Little Smith Street (north side)
86 Tram Stop 15 (Gertrude Street | Smith Street)
There is a lot of street art throughout the length of Little Smith Street, which runs parallel with Smith Street itself.
Smith Street is featured in the following COLLINGWOOD - Smith Street page, and as Little Smith Street ends at Webb Street, a Smith Street sidestreet, I could have added much of the works following to the Collingwood page.
I have put them here, as the Collingwood page and map were getting rather crowded, they are in any case, technically located in the suburb of Fitzroy, which commences on the west side of Smith Street.
Act of Creation: Corner of Gertrude Street and Little Smith Street
The artwork that was on this corner in January 2013 is shown in the three photos below. Further dated photographs show the progress as it is replaced by a new work after being defaced and damaged. The rest of Little Smith Street follows, travelling north.
8 January 2013
Artist (next three photos): Reka
16 February 2013
17 February 2013
20 February 2013
2 March 2013
19 October 2013
Unfortunately the replacement piece has suffered the same fate as the work it replaced. The throw ups here, although careless and crude in execution were added with appropriate care to ensure complete destruction of any enjoyment of the artwork beneath.

Just after (the Gertrude Street entrance) to this street the 86 tram turns left into Smith Street. The street art located along the Smith Street leg of the route can be found in the Melbourne Street Art 86: Collingwood page.
